■ Message from the president

Japan Cardiovascular Association (JCVA)

I am Sata from the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Tokushima University, and I am deeply honored to have been appointed President of the Japan Cardiovascular Association (JCVA), a Certified Nonprofit Organization.

The Japan Cardiovascular Association was established with the aim of promoting academic research and education, as well as raising public awareness, through the organization of annual scientific meetings and public lectures, and the publication of its academic journal. The Association seeks to advance research into the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and to disseminate the knowledge gained from such research to both healthcare professionals and the general public.
The Association was founded through the dedicated efforts of its inaugural President, Dr. Hasegawa. Since its establishment, it has continued to develop and grow under the leadership of successive presidents: I served as President for one year, followed by Professor Ikeda of Toho University for two years and Professor Yoshida of the Institute of Science Tokyo for two years. I am deeply humbled and honored to have been entrusted with the presidency once again, and I feel a profound sense of responsibility as I assume this role.

Our annual scientific meeting is held once a year in different regions throughout Japan. The meeting provides a forum for presentations on current topics in pharmacological treatment in the field of cardiovascular medicine, as well as lively discussions through cross-talk sessions featuring invited speakers from overseas as part of the International Session. The Association also actively conducts public lectures in various regions of Japan, with the aim of raising awareness among the general public about the importance of preventing cardiovascular diseases.
Our official journal, Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, features reviews on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, reports on clinical trials conducted in Japan and abroad, and introductions to important basic and clinical research findings.

We maintain close collaboration with international organizations, including the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacology (ISCP), the World Heart Federation (WHF), the Asian Heart Society (AHS), and the Asia-Pacific Heart Network (APHN). Through these collaborations, we promote international exchange, the sharing of information, and international joint research. We also undertook the Japanese translation of the ESC Handbook of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, which was published by Oxford University Press in March 2020.

I am determined to do my utmost, however modest my contribution may be, to ensure the continued growth and development of the Japan Cardiovascular Association. At the same time, I will devote myself fully to encouraging and supporting the growth of our younger members, who will carry the Association and the field of cardiovascular medicine into the next generation.

I sincerely ask for the continued cooperation and support of all our members and everyone involved with the Association.

Sincerely,
Sata Masataka
